There will be 293 MW of solar projects in Colorado, while 173 MW of solar projects will be built in Henry and Rush counties about 40 miles east of Indianapolis. Each project has a power purchase agreement.
In addition to the PPA Sun Mountain signed with Xcel Energy, a utility that serves Colorado, the Colorado Energy Plan calls for a 55% jump in renewable energy by 2026 and a 60% reduction in carbon emissions. Emissions must be reduced by 26% by 2025, 50% by 2030, and 90% by 2050.
The project is located near the Bighorn solar project of Light-source, also located in Pueblo. Evraz Rocky Mountain Steels property in Pueblo is home to the 300 MW project. There are more than 750,000 solar panels in this on-site facility, the biggest in the country dedicated to a single customer. Railroad tracks are made from recycled scrap metal at the plant. Xcel Energy has also agreed to a PPA for this project.
